University of California victim of nationwide hack attack

LOS ANGELES — The University of California is warning its students and staff that a ransomware group might have stolen and published their personal data and that of hundreds of other schools, government agencies and companies nationwide.

A cybersecurity attack targeted a vulnerability in Accellion, a third-party vendor that is used to securely transfer files, the university said in a statement Wednesday.

“We understand those behind this attack have published online screenshots of personal information, and we will notify members of the UC community if we believe their data was leaked in this manner,” the university said.

University of California victim of ransomware attack

The University of California (UC) said Wednesday that it was the victim of a ransomware attack.

The state university system said in a statement published to its website UCNet, that its institution, along with several other government agencies, private companies and other schools have been involved in an attack through the use of Accellion, a secure filing transfer company. 

“An unauthorized individual appears to have copied and transferred UC files by exploiting a vulnerability in Accellion’s file transfer service,” according to UC.

University of Nebraska officials say they acted properly in Title IX cases

University of Nebraska officials say they acted promptly and properly in handling complaints of sexual misconduct against athletes and other male students, according to a motion filed Thursday to dismiss a lawsuit in which nine women allege sex discrimination and violations of the Title IX gender-equity law.

The lawsuit filed in July 2020 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska details multiple allegations from the women — one of whom is a former Nebraska volleyball player — that the school mishandled complaints of sexual assault and harassment, including reports involving accusations against at least five athletes.

KU graduate programs ranked among top 50

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – Forty-nine KU graduate programs ranked among the top 50 graduate programs of public universities.

The University of Kansas says nine of its graduate programs are in the top 10 of programs among public universities and 49 programs are in the top 50. It said the 2022 rankings come from the U.S. News & World Report released on Tuesday.

KU said its local government management program maintained its No. 1 ranking among all universities, a position it has held since 1998. It said its special education program ranked first among public schools.
